John P. Bilezikian, MD To Be Honored With First Global Leadership Award
SAN DIEGO – February 2, 2006 – The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), the world’s leading organization in the field of bone densitometry, will honor Columbia University’s John P. Bilezikian, M.D. with the first annual ISCD Global Leadership Award.
The Society’s first ISCD Global Leadership Award is given for distinguished service and leadership in the global promotion of the field of bone densitometry and the ISCD. Dr. Bilezikian is major national and international spokesperson for the field of metabolic bone diseases and often speaks as a representative of the ISCD. His publications, which number over 450, speak to his active original investigative initiatives as well as his demand as an author of many reference sources of endocrinology and metabolic bone diseases.
“It is a great honor to be awarded the ISCD Global Leadership Award from the International Society for Clinical Densitometry,” said Dr. Bilezikian. “ISCD is committed to programs that enable physicians worldwide to understand and to apply the newest techniques in our field in order to diagnose and to manage one of the most important global diseases of our time, namely osteoporosis. It has been a great privilege to work with this Society toward this noble end and I look forwarded to continuing my part in this quest.”
Dr. Bilezikian is Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at the College of Physicians & Surgeons, ColumbiaUniversity and is Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Director of the Metabolic Bone Diseases Program at Columbia-PresbyterianMedicalCenter. He served as ISCD President (1999-2001), chaired the International Relations Committee (2003-2005), and serves on Board of Directors. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Governance and on the Committee of Scientific Advisors of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (1999 – present). John also sits on the Steering Committee of the World Foundation for Medical Studies in Female Health (1995 – present).
