Education

The International Society for Clinical Densitometry is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to offer continuing medical education for physicians.

As the world leader in  skeletal health assessment education, the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), provides comprehensive educational courses  in adult and pediatric bone densitometry,  vertebral fracture assessment and body composition.

  • Bone Densitometry Course
The ISCD Bone Densitometry Course is divided into two programs. The Clinician Course (open to MDs, PhDs, DOs, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants) is most appropriate for those involved in the interpretation of DXA scans. The Technologist Course (open to Technologists and Allied Health Professionals) is most appropriate for those involved in the performance of the bone densitometry examination. Clinician Course for Technologists: Technologists may attend the Clinician Course if gaining information about interpreting DXA scans would assist them with their job responsibilities. However, it is recommended that the Technologist Course be taken first.

The core elements of the program provide a set of standard practices and information to raise the level of awareness and education in bone densitometry. The course emphasizes central DXA testing. In addition, a solid foundation in other forms of bone mass measurement, including peripheral DXA and QCT is provided.

  • Vertebral Fracture Assessment Course

The ISCD Vertebral Fracture Assessment (VFA) course is an advanced densitometry course that provides an overview of VFA technology. This new technology offers a significant advance in the diagnosis and management of patients at risk for osteoporotic fractures by allowing clinicians to identify and treat those who would not be recognized using a bone density test alone.  The course is open to clinicians, technologists, scientists, researchers, and healthcare providers who wish to learn more about VFA and its

  • Pediatric Bone Densitometry Course
The Pediatric Bone Densitometry Course (Pedi BDC), an advanced densitometry course that provides an overview of obtaining and interpreting bone mineral density (BMD) measurements in children and adolescents. There are caveats that arise in the interpretation of BMD results from growing and developing children.  Lectures will review children in a pediatric practice who may be at risk for a low BMD; a definition of osteoporosis in pediatric patients; diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in the child or adolescent with chronic disease; appropriate reporting of pediatric bone density results; and a review of peripheral quantitative tomography (pQCT) and other modalities to evaluate the peripheral skeleton.  The course is open to clinicians, technologists, scientists, researchers, and healthcare providers who wish to learn more about pediatric densitometry.
  •
  • Body Composition Course
ISCD is now offering the Body Composition Course. This course will educate healthcare professionals to successfully use DXA body composition analysis in the management of obesity, geriatric sarcopenia and other low muscle mass states, general health and pediatric skeletal disease. The target audience for this activity is clinicians, technologists, researchers, scientists, and healthcare providers who wish to learn the skills and techniques of quality DXA body composition analysis to implement in their practice.
