Walter Briney To Be Honored With Society’s Humanitarian Award

SAN DIEGO – February 2, 2006 – The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), the world’s leading organization in the field of bone densitometry, will honor Denver Health Medical Center’s Walter G. Briney, M.D.with the Dr. Oscar S. Gluck ISCD Humanitarian Award.

“I am humbled and honored to receive the award. We all remember the many contributions of Dr. Gluck for the  benefit of his fellow man,” said Dr. Briney on being notified of the award.

Dr. Briney is the Chairman of the Clinical Faculty Advisory Committee for the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado School Of Medicine, representing the 600 member Volunteer Faculty. He teaches in the Arthritis Clinics at Denver Health Medical Center as a volunteer. He travels to the Four Corners area of Southwestern Colorado to do arthritis consults for two Ute Indian reservations and is on full-time call to them for pro-bono telephone consultations. He does fish identification two or three times per year with Reef Environmental Education Foundation and teaches others how to do fish identification. This data is used to identify problems with over-fishing and pollution, mainly in the continental United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Most notably, Dr. Briney acts as a confidant and advisor for the many people he knows who, in their 70’s and beyond, have developed serious illnesses and need help with guidance through the difficult medical system.

The award is given for outstanding service for those in need and is named for Oscar S. Gluck, MD, who until is untimely passing in July 2004, served as director of the Arizona Rheumatology Center and was a clinical professor in the University of Arizona’s department of medicine.
