How long does the ISCD Facility Accreditation process take?
From the time you start filling out your application to the day you receive your facility’s certificate of accreditation should take approximately 4 to 6 months. The largest amount of time, 90 days maximum, is allotted to the facilities to complete the application (i.e. collect documentation, retrieve patient scan samples and answer questions on scan case studies).
Who makes ISCD Facility Accreditation decisions?
A two-person assessor team, one clinician and one technologist, will be assigned to your Facility Accreditation application. All assessors are ISCD certified (Certified Clinical Densitometrists or Certified Densitometry Technologists), attended an ISCD assessor training workshop, possess specific qualifications, and are currently working in DXA facilities. Their findings and recommendations are compiled in preparation for final review by an Acceptance Committee of the Facility Accreditation Council.
What happens if our facility does not get accredited? Facilities that do not meet accreditation criteria, will received a “Recommendation Letter” outlining areas of deficiency. The Facility Accreditation Council will determine on a case-by-case basis the deadline by which facility deficiencies need to be corrected. If deficiencies are not addressed and proof of compliance is not submitted by the agreed upon deadline, the facility is not granted accreditation. Facilities that are not granted accreditation are eligible to resubmit a revised application and pay appropriate submission fees within one (1) year of the date of their letter.
