Dissolution of the U.S. CDT
CDT® Status in the United States
Changes in many state regulations and third-party reimbursement requirements have made it mandatory that technologist certification programs be fully accredited in the United States. In response to this mandate, the ISCD revised and updated the technologist credentialing process, and is in the final stages of applying for accreditation through a nationally recognized accreditation agency. Technologists certified via the new process will be recognized by the designation CBDT™ (Certified Bone Density Technologist).
The CDT credential in the United States will be phased out over the next 4 years. Therefore, all technologists in the United States will be required to pass the new examination by December 31, 2012 to maintain an ISCD bone densitometry credential.
CDTs in the United States wanting to maintain their current credential until December 31, 2012 will be allowed to do so through the current recertification process; however, all U.S. CDT certificates will no longer be valid after December 31, 2012.
