a.
Enhancement or development of ISCD clinician or technologist education/certification or patient materials.  These materials will be owned and copyrighted by the ISCD.

b.
Investigation of controversial areas involving clinical applications of bone densitometry (e.g., use of lowest vertebral body, forearm ROIs, precision assessment, etc.).

c.
Appropriate utilization of new technologies such as VFA, peripheral technologies, QCT, etc.

2. Submitted proposals will be limited to ISCD members or trainees/technologists in a laboratory or group of ISCD members.

3. Proposals must be submitted in English.

4. Grant requests must be submitted by February 15, 2007 to the ISCD office.  Proposals are limited to two pages and must include background, study design, timeline and budget (see form).  Extensive literature reviews are not acceptable. Applications longer than two pages will not be considered.

5. Results must be attainable in time for submission, in abstract form, to the 2008 ISCD Annual Meeting (San Francisco, California, USA from March 12-15, 2008).  Some or all accepted projects will qualify for oral presentations at the Annual Meeting.

6. Proposals will be considered by the ISCD’s Grants Review Committee (GRC).  The review process will be blinded.

7. The GRC will use the following criteria to determine which projects will be funded:

a.
Scientific or educational merit

b.
Importance to ISCD and the bone mass measurement field

c.
Quality of study design

d.
Appropriateness of budget (taxes, overhead, administrative costs or indirect cost recovery (ICR) is to be included in the project budget and is subject to the maximum award)

e.
Resources to conduct the proposed work

8. A final report must be submitted to the ISCD GRC within one year of the award date.  Submission of results to the Journal of Clinical Densitometry will be expected for research performed under this program, although acceptance by the Journal is not guaranteed.
