With the rapidly expanding population of elderly people in the United States, the use of clinical densitometry in the diagnosis and treatment of such metabolic bone diseases as osteoporosis has becomes ever more important. New, more accurate, and less expensive technologies for measuring bone mass are now available, and many physicians are already relying heavily on their test results, as well as on new bio-chemical markers, to optimize diagnosis and treatment of their patients. The International Society for Clinical Densitometry presents in one journal all of the practice-oriented findings, techniques, and relevant technical information currently scattered across many different journals and books. The Journal of Clinical Densitometry publishes the latest clinical research on the uses of bone mass and density measurements in medical practice, as well as state-of-the-art review articles on critical topics. In addition, the Journal offers clinicians and technologists reports on accepted and emerging technologies, product reviews, practice management advice, and technical guidance for effective operation of densitometry machines, thus helping to ensure a high level of quality assurance, as well as a thorough understanding of the cost and the benefits associated with the various technologies. Combining high quality research and review articles with sound, practice-oriented advice, the Journal of Clinical Densitometry meets the diverse diagnostic and management needs of all those radiologists, endocrinologists, nephrologists, rheumatologists, gynecologists, family physicians, internists, and technologists whose osteoporotic patients require diagnostic clinical densitometry for therapeutic management. JCD is the anchor for the publication of the internationally acknowledged ISCD Position Development Conferences and their resulting ISCD Official Positions. These positions lead the clinical field into exploration of new ideas and concepts that impact the practical clinical management of osteoporosis and other metabolic diseases.
