A 22.8 year-old Caucasian male with a history of severe hyperparathyroidism and renal calculi underwent parathyroidectomy in July 2005. He has a 2 cm mass in the right mandible. A first BMD test is shown below, performed on GE Lunar Prodigy densitometer.
One year after surgical treatment and normalization of his calcium with calcium supplementation, rocaltrol and HCTZ and a normal parathyroid hormone level, he returns for BMD testing:
- The follow-up scans show phenomenal increases at all sites. Are the scans valid for interpretation?
- What further testing, if any, would you recommend?
