Fees for Osteoporosis Essentials for Technologists
Day 1 & 2
OSTEOPOROSIS: Essentials of Densitometry, Diagnosis and Management – An international course of the ISCD and IOF – Formerly the ISCD Bone Densitometry Course
The core elements of this program provide a set of standard practices and information to raise the quality of DXA exams and patient care. This is accomplished by increasing awareness of the technical expertise involved in bone densitometry and educating how to address the related challenges. The course focuses on the role a technologist plays in DXA exam acquisition and patient care.
This course is most appropriate for those involved in bone densitometry examination performance. It is open to any Technologist or Allied Health professional performing DXA scans.
After attending the course, participants should be better prepared to:
- Design and implement quality control and assurance practices
- Understand the importance of precision assessments and how to conduct in a facility
- Identify lumbar spine, proximal femur and forearm anatomy and recognize abnormal or unusual anatomy and correct patient positioning for scan acquisition and analysis
- Recognize vertebral fracture significance in osteoporosis and techniques for acquiring VFA scans
- Critically evaluate DXA scans and identify acquisition and analysis errors as methods to resolve errors
- Recognize how technical errors impact clinical interpretation and patient care
Day 1 has been approved by the ASRT for 9.5 continuing education credits. Day 2 has been approved by the ASRT for 5.0 continuing education credits.
Technologists must sign in and out each day to verify attendance and receive credit. Partial credit will not be given for either day.
Attestation of Achievement – Technologists (This is not a replacement for CBDT Certification.)
The Joint Entity of ISCD and IOF have developed an additional opportunity for those interested in demonstrating their competence in this subject matter. Individuals attending the two-day course are eligible to register for an online activity demonstrating competency in the specific content relayed in this course. Successful completion of the activity will provide the individual with an Attestation of Achievement that can be printed.
This is not an ISCD Certification.
