Facility Accreditation Program - Resources

What resource materials are available to our facility as we prepare for ISCD Accreditation?

What resource materials are available once our facility registers?

The following resource materials are made available to registered facilities:

  • ISCD Statement of Essential Elements:  Definitions, clarifications and demonstrations of accreditation compliance.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Guidelines Outline and Template
  • Instructions on electronic upload of scans, reports, documents and compliance materials

What are the Essential Elements (standards) of the ISCD Facility Accreditation Program?

The ISCD Facility Accreditation Program assesses compliance with bone densitometry criteria established in the program’s Statement of Essential Elements.

The Essential Elements must be evident in all submissions from facilities applying for accreditation. The Elements were developed and are updated by the ISCD Facility Accreditation Council. Applying facilities will be required to demonstrate compliance with the Essential Elements.  Definitions, clarifications and demonstrations of compliance with the Six Essential Elements are available upon submitting a Facility Accreditation Registration Form.

What happens to a facility’s existing accreditation when the ISCD Essential Elements are updated?

Once the facility meets the eligibility requirements and is deemed in compliance with the then-current ISCD Facility Accreditation policies and procedures, it is granted accreditation for a three-year period by the Facility Accreditation Council. To continue to use ISCD logos and trademarks provided when granted accreditation, it will be the obligation of the facility to keep up-to-date on ISCD accreditation policies and procedures during the three-year cycle.  Accredited facilities will automatically become part of an ISCD Facility Accreditation community that will include regular communications on best practices and other issues impacting the program and its elements.

Once it is granted, how can the ISCD help individual facilities promote their accreditation?

There are two ways that the ISCD will help promote your accreditation:

  • A promotional kit will be included with your accreditation certificate.
  • Accredited facilities will be listed on the ISCD Web site and Facility Accreditation Web site.

We encourage facilities to publicize their achievement of national accreditation by notifying patients, the public, local media, third-party payers, and resident referral sources

When can a facility re-accredit?

ISCD Facility Accreditation is a three-year certificate.  Within the third year, facilities can re-apply using a shortened version of the first accreditation application. Facilities must be re-assessed to meet the then-current criteria as established within the ISCD Official Positions, ISCD Education Courses and ISCD Facility Accreditation policies and procedures.
